Prepare your soil by working compost into those rocky New England beds - potatoes need loose, well-draining soil to develop properly. Cut larger seed potatoes into pieces with at least two eyes each, letting the cut surfaces dry for 24 hours before planting to prevent rot.

Watering Potato in Zone 4B (Northeast)
Potatoes need consistent moisture throughout the growing season, but our Northeast climate requires a thoughtful approach to watering. Most potato plants need about 1-2 inches of water per week, including rainfall.
