Transplanting Outdoors
Potato transplanting isn't a common practice since these crops are typically grown from seed potatoes planted directly in the ground. However, if you're starting with potato slips or small plants from a nursery, you'll want to transplant them outdoors from early to late April once soil temperatures reach at least 45°F.
Harden off any potato transplants gradually over a week, starting with 2-3 hours outdoors in filtered light and building up to full sun exposure. Space transplants 12 inches apart in rows 3 feet apart to allow for proper hilling later in the season.

You can start harvesting "new" potatoes from late June through July, about 10-12 weeks after planting, once plants begin flowering. These thin-skinned early potatoes are perfect for immediate eating but won't store well.
