🌱 Starting Seeds Indoors

Starting Acorn Squash indoors is doable, but direct sowing is often more successful in the Plains. If you want a head start, begin indoors from early to late May, about three weeks before you plan to transplant. Use seed trays with good drainage and a quality seed-starting mix.

Keep the trays in a warm spot, ideally around 70-75Β°F, and provide plenty of light. A heat mat can help with germination. You can expect your first Acorn Squash harvest from mid August through mid September. The squash is ready to harvest when the skin is dark green with a distinct orange spot where it touched the ground. The shell should be hard, and the stem should be dry and tough.
